Receives Merit Award from CCC for Best Sustainability Project 2015
99X Technology received its first acknowledgement for its efforts in corporate sustainability when it received the Merit award for the Best Sustainability Project 2015 for the education outreach program ‘Dotitude’, at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce’s Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards 2015.
“It is indeed an honour for us to be recognised at this prestigious awards ceremony among some of Sri Lanka’s most sustainable corporate entities. ‘Dotitude’ is a fully employee-driven initiative and to receive this award is a testament to our employees’ commitment to give back to society, devoting their spare time and effort in order to reach out to students across the country,” stated 99XT Technology Co-Founder and CEO Mano Sekaram, when commenting on this accolade.
As an education outreach program, ‘Dotitude’ was created by the employees of 99X Technology when they realised the vital need to develop the pool of talent available to the Sri Lankan IT industry. The closest touch point were the universities, with whom the employees already worked with to a certain extent, and Dotitude came into existence in 2012. It was understood that this project was also a means of bringing about reconciliation and so in that same year, teams travelled up to the North to conduct workshops at the University of Jaffna.
However, the Dotitude team understood that they needed to extend their reach to schoolchildren at a younger age as well and so, in line with this, adopted a school that was about to be closed down in order to provide continuous support and educational assistance to the underprivileged children. The children receive lessons English and Computing, training in chess, improved physical infrastructure and more.
Today, nearly all the employees of 99X Technology contribute to Dotitude and in three years, have reached out to more than 6,000 undergraduates in over 15 universities and higher education institutes across the country. For further outreach, 99X Technology employees also work with industry bodies such as SLASSCOM, ICTA and other organisations in order to reach out to even more students island-wide.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce’s Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards has been held for 12 consecutive years with the aim of recognising corporate entities that champion corporate citizenship and for their untiring efforts towards adopting sustainable practices in their business processes. It follows a multifaceted judging process, taking into account the economic, environmental and people aspects of each entity.
